Terms of Use
1.Acceptance of these terms
By creating an account or using Crossroutes, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app. These terms are between you and Lennard Zirks, a German sole proprietor trading as "Software-Entwicklung Lennard Zirks" (see the privacy policy for full contact details), who develops and operates Crossroutes.
2.What Crossroutes is
Crossroutes is available as an app and, with the same account and the same features, in the browser at web.crossroutes.de. Wherever these terms say "the app", they include the web version.
Crossroutes is a tool for creating, finding, and coordinating group bicycle rides and runs organized through the app. You can create Crossroutes, build or import routes, invite people, and join Crossroutes others have created. It is a coordination tool - it doesn't supervise, lead, or guarantee the safety of any Crossroute that happens through it.
3.Who can use it
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account, and legally able to enter into these terms. If local law where you live sets a higher age for agreeing to online services, that higher age applies to you.
4.Your account
- You're responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for keeping your login credentials to yourself.
- One account per person. Impersonating someone else, or creating an account on behalf of someone without their knowledge, isn't allowed.
- You can delete your account at any time from Settings - see the privacy policy for exactly what that removes.
5.Member subscription
Crossroutes offers an optional paid subscription called Member - on Android, either monthly (€2.39/month) or yearly (€19.99/year, about 30% cheaper than paying monthly; Germany, VAT included either way), billed through Google Play, with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers. The trial applies once per Google account regardless of which plan you start with, so switching between monthly and yearly later doesn't grant a second one. Free features stay free regardless of whether you subscribe; Member unlocks a small set of extras (recurring Crossroute scheduling, bookmarking routes for reuse, more route data storage, and access to your past/bookmarked Crossroutes) - see the app's own Member screen for the current, exact feature list. Member isn't currently available for purchase on iOS.
In the web version, Member can't be purchased yet. A Member subscription you already have belongs to your account, so it applies in the browser too; managing or cancelling it still happens in Google Play.
- Billing and auto-renewal: handled entirely by Google Play Billing. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, at the then-current price, until you cancel. We never see your card or payment details - only your subscription status, via Google Play.
- Cancelling: in the Play Store app, go to Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Crossroutes → Cancel. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep Member access until the end of the period you've already paid for.
- If your subscription lapses: nothing you created is deleted. You simply lose access to Member-only screens and actions until you resubscribe - everything reappears immediately if you do.
- Price changes: if the Member price changes, we'll notify current subscribers in the app in advance. Continuing your subscription after a price change takes effect means you accept the new price; you can always cancel beforehand instead.
- EU/EEA right of withdrawal: consumers in the EU/EEA normally have 14 days to withdraw from an online purchase without giving a reason. Because Member grants immediate access to digital features, starting your free trial (or subscription) is your express request that we begin providing that access immediately - under §356(5) of the German Civil Code (BGB), implementing Art. 16(m) of the EU Consumer Rights Directive, your withdrawal right ends once that immediate performance has begun and been acknowledged as part of Google Play's own purchase flow. Since every new subscription starts with a 7-day free trial, you can always back out at zero cost by cancelling before the trial ends.
- Refunds: since Google Play processes all payments, refund requests are handled under Google Play's own refund policy - contact Google Play support, not us, for a refund of a specific charge.
- VAT / sales tax: €2.39/month (or €19.99/year) is the VAT-included price shown to German customers - the exact amount shown to you may differ depending on where you live. Google Play, as the payment processor, is responsible for calculating, collecting, and remitting any such tax on the purchase price where applicable, not us directly.

6.Acceptable use
When using Crossroutes, you agree not to:
- Harass, threaten, or impersonate other users.
- Post content that's illegal, defamatory, or infringes someone else's rights.
- Use the reference-ride link field for anything other than a genuine Komoot or Strava route - it's restricted to those two domains specifically to prevent it becoming a phishing vector.
- Scrape, reverse-engineer, or automate interactions with the app or its backend beyond normal personal use.
- Use the app to organize something that isn't actually a group ride or run, as a way of spamming or advertising unrelated to cycling or running.
If you come across a Crossroute, club, or profile that breaks these rules, use the report flag in the app to send it to us for review - see the privacy policy for what a report includes and who sees it.
7.Your content
You keep ownership of the routes, photos, bios, links, and Crossroute descriptions you add. By posting them, you give us the limited right to store and display them within the app to the other users they're intended for (e.g., a Crossroute's participants, or your friends). We don't use your content for anything beyond operating the app itself - no training data, no marketing use, no resale.
Don't post anything you don't have the right to share, and don't upload a GPX file or route you don't have the right to redistribute.
Links you add to your own profile or a club's page (unlike a Crossroute's reference-ride link, see section 6) aren't restricted to a specific list of sites - you can link to any real, relevant page. We don't verify that a link actually belongs to you or your club before showing it; the same impersonation rule in section 6 applies to a link claiming to be someone else's account just as it would to any other content.
8.Cycling and running are physical activities - participate at your own risk
Crossroutes helps you find and organize group rides and runs. It does not supervise them, verify anyone's cycling or running ability, inspect routes for hazards, or guarantee that any participant - including a Crossroute's creator - has any particular level of experience or equipment.
Group cycling and running carry real physical risk: traffic, road or trail conditions, weather, and the actions of other participants are entirely outside our control. By joining or creating a Crossroute through the app, you accept that you do so at your own risk, and that neither Crossroutes nor its developer is responsible for what happens during it. Wear a helmet when cycling, follow local traffic law, and ride or run within your ability.
9.Third-party services
Map tiles, road-snapping, any Komoot/Strava/other links you or another user open (whether a Crossroute's reference-ride link or a link on a profile or club page), and an optional Strava connection (route import/export) are provided by services outside our control (see the privacy policy for the full list). We aren't responsible for their availability, accuracy, or content; a Strava connection is additionally subject to Strava's own terms of use.
10.No warranty
Crossroutes is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. As an independently developed project, we can't guarantee the app or its backend will always be available, error-free, or uninterrupted.
11.Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the developer's liability for any damages arising from your use of the app is limited to cases of intent or gross negligence, except where liability arises from injury to life, body, or health, or under mandatory statutory provisions (such as product liability law) that cannot be excluded. This limitation applies in particular to any incident, injury, or dispute arising during a Crossroute organized through the app - see section 8.
12.Suspension and termination
You can stop using Crossroutes and delete your account whenever you like. We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these terms, particularly the acceptable-use rules in section 6 - including in response to a report submitted through the app - after making a reasonable effort to understand what happened first.
13.Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of the Federal Republic of Germany, excluding its conflict-of-law rules, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection provisions of the country you live in. Where legally permissible, the courts of Oldenburg, Germany have jurisdiction over any dispute.
14.Changes to these terms
If these terms change in a way that meaningfully affects your rights, we'll surface that in the app rather than silently updating this page.
